Not Every School Deserves You (Let’s Talk About It)
Apr 18, 2026Here’s something no one says out loud:
Not every school deserves you.
And I know that might feel uncomfortable to hear…
Because you’ve probably been taught the opposite.
Break the People-Pleasing Cycle
As teachers, we’re conditioned to:
- be agreeable
- be flexible
- fit in
To make it work anywhere.
But here’s the truth:
You don’t have to fit everywhere.
And you shouldn’t.
This reminds me of high school.
You know the “popular group” that everyone wanted to be a part of?
At some point, I stopped trying to fit into spaces that didn’t feel right.
I leaned into my uniqueness.
I found my people.
The ones who were a little “weird”—in the best way.
And you know what?
Those were the people I actually loved being around.
Because here’s what I realized:
The right people see you.
The wrong people don’t even notice you.
And that’s not a bad thing.
That’s clarity.
The Truth About Trying to Fit In
When you try to be everything to everyone…
It drains you.
When you force yourself into environments that don’t align…
It drains you.
But the right environment?
It feels different.
The Right School Will:
- feel like a breath of fresh air
- make you feel supported
- allow you to be yourself
- make you feel like you belong
And that’s what I want for you.
Because you deserve that kind of experience.
You deserve joy in your career.
The Reframe You Need
Rejection doesn’t mean:
“You weren’t good enough.”
Sometimes it means:
“That wasn’t aligned.”
A “no” isn’t the end.
It’s redirection.
It’s making space for something better.
Something more aligned.
Every time you don’t get a job…
It’s not just a missed opportunity.
It’s also protection from the wrong one.
The Identity Shift
This is the shift:
You don’t want to get hired anywhere.
You know your worth.
You know your value.
And you are selective about the environments you step into.
You don’t let just anyone have access to your energy, your time, or your talent.
What This Looks Like in Real Time
Instead of thinking:
“Why didn’t they choose me?”
You start asking:
“Was that even a place I wanted to be?”
And that one question?
Changes everything.
Take Action: Reflect on This
Think of one “no” you’ve received.
Now ask yourself:
Was that actually rejection…
Or was it redirection?
What if that “no” was creating space for something better?
Because often…
It is.
Recap
- You don’t have to fit everywhere—and you shouldn’t
- People-pleasing leads to burnout and misalignment
- The right environments feel supportive and aligned
- A “no” can be redirection, not rejection
- You are allowed to be selective
